Another Year For Improvement

The chitter chatter around he office this week will be, “How was your New Year’s and what is your resolution(s)?” I’m sure many common responses to that question include, go to to gym, write down what you eat, lose 20 pounds, stop going to Dunkin Donuts every morning, the list goes on and on.

I thought about all of those things and other bad habits I could break, but then I decided that what I really want to work on this year is stop swearing… I do too much of it and it’s gross. So if you catch me swearing… Call me out on it, I’d appreciate it. And my other resolution is to not judge others. Everyone has their own story and a reason to why they are the way they are. I think that this world would be a much better place if we were more kind and actually took the time to try and understand, instead of rushing into anger. I have noticed a lot of it lately… Especially in this online world where everyone is an expert.

We are all fighting the same battle called life and it’s much too short to take anything for granted. So that’s that… No swearing and to not judge others until I know their story. To me, it’s just the wrong thing to do.

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday and New Year’s… And I look forward to a wonderful 2012! Health, love & happiness to you all!

I’m Back…

I took a little bit of a break from posting on my blog… As some of you have noticed. I had a real defining moment when I realized that unfortunately, not everyone in this world is about helping one another. It really bothers me that so many people will do such unexpected things to get ahead… Or try to get ahead. I do believe in karma… I have to.

Yes, I have opinions, some of them are strong. I am not aiming to please everyone. I don’t think anyone in this world ever should. If you don’t like them, that is fine, I am open to your opinion, but to be quite honest, if you are going to continue to pick on me and bash my thoughts and opinions, I suggest you get your own damn blog and perhaps take a hike. I won’t be offended. ;) Life is too short to be an asshole and miserable. So be happy, enjoy every day and be thankful every day… Not just those 30 days in November… Ai yi yi!

I can dish it and I can take it, but I have feelings too and I think a lot of things said online get very misconstrued and taken way out of context… I welcome your thoughts. But be a nice person, OK? :) Thanks!

Skinnygirl Margarita: A Girls Best Friend

I have been a fan of Bethenny Frankel ever since the first time I saw her ‘tell it like it IS’ in the first season of the ‘Real Housewives of New York.’ Maybe it’s the fact that our birthday’s are only six days apart. Or that I am also a Scorpio that always tells it like it is and if you don’t like it… “Tough! ;) ” As far as I am concerned, this world needs more people that aren’t afraid to speak up, have a voice, an opinion and that’s why I love Miss Bethenny! Not only did she create the best damn margarita you ever did have… She created one that isn’t loaded with sugar, calories and fake stuff, hence her brand empire, Skinnygirl Cocktails, and what I like to call a girls best friend! [Don't worry ladies diamonds too! Diamonds forever! ;) ]

My favorite cocktail, by far is a margarita, on the rocks, no salt. [I think the salt just makes a mess and who needs to eat or lick actual granules of salt unless it's a tequila shot? ;) ] Every summer AKA margarita season, I have been checking the grocery stores for a quick & easy, already mixed, margarita that I could just pour over ice and serve! Mission impossible! [As far as finding one that met all of the qualifications and wasn't going to completely reverse those Bikram yoga workouts that I love so much!

Apparently Bethenny had the same dilemma because she solved our problem!

Even without the fancy red branding, I recognized the Skinnygirl brand! :)

I had been reading the Facebook comments and tweets about how much everyone LOVES Skinnygirl. The only problem? I couldn’t get it anywhere in Maine! “Oh great!”, I thought, “Another thing that Maine is the last to either know about OR get OR both!” So, I took to Facebook and Twitter, kindly letting Bethenny know that I am a HUGE fan, but that I was also dying to try some of her magical concoction that everyone has been raving about. I soon realized that Maine wasn’t the only state that didn’t yet sell it, but that in her new spin-off reality show, ‘Bethenny Ever After‘ on Bravo, they directly addressed the Skinnygirl Margarita production issue first hand. I am so glad that they did because I was adamant about finding out why on EARTH I couldn’t find any in Maine! They couldn’t make it as fast as people could drink it! Not a bad business problem to have, but nonetheless, it is a problem.

This is the photo that I got from Nate! :)

Skinnygirl Margarita had become quite the topic of conversation among my girlfriends. We all kept asking one another, “Do you know where I can buy Skinnygirl in the Portland area?!” No one ever had an answer. But then about three weeks ago I was in DiPietro’s Sandwich Shop [BEST italian sandwiches of all time!] in Cape Elizabeth getting lunch when I saw an empty space on a liquor display end cap with a handwritten cardboard sign that said “Skinnygirl Margarita $15.99 + tax + deposit” I stood there for a second thinking “BINGO! It exists in Maine… It’s just sold out!” I was so happy because I knew it would just be a matter of time because I had a bottle of Skinnygirl in my hands!

About a week later, my fiancé, Nate was getting some necessities for a BBQ when he saw an entire rack FILLED with Skinnygirl Margarita at RSVP [liquor store in Portland, Maine]. I immediately got a text with a photo of just what I had been waiting so long for!  :) He brought me home 2 bottles and I am happy to report that it is EXCELLENT! I was not let down one bit! It is the perfect concoction with the PERFECT touch of salt to taste! That drink was quite the hit and conversation starter that day among the ladies! But it’s not just for us ladies… You guys can enjoy it too while saving those millions of calories you consume every time you open a beer or pour a glass of wine. ;)

If you haven’t been able to find Skinnygirl Margarita because they are sold out everywhere you go…. You may want to make your own Skinnygirl Sangria! It’s super yummy, and of course low cal!

  • 8 peaches, pitted and sliced
  • 4 white plums, pitted and sliced
  • 1 pound green grapes, cut in half
  • 3 bottles Prosecco (an Italian sparkling wine)
  • One 12-ounce can Fresca or diet lemon/lime soda
  • One 12-ounce can club soda
  • To prepare: Combine all the ingredients and chill for at least 1 hour. Serve over ice.

She also has Skinnygirl Smoothers n’ Shapers [affiliate link] which are problem solving undergarments for every day!… I really like the apron! hehe :)

I’ve really enjoyed watching Bethenny follow her dreams, grow her brand [cookbooks, books; 'A Place of Yes'... Read it... It's awesome!, yoga workouts, shape wear, etc...], knowing that as long as she pushed on forward, working hard every day she would be successful. Very inspirational woman! My favorite about the whole Skinnygirl Cocktails brand? The fact that the liquor business is and has always been an industry dominated by males and then in comes Miss Bethenny and changed the ‘rules’! ;) Love ♥  it!

Have you tried Skinnygirl Margarita or Skinnygirl Sangria? And if so, did you love it?!

Cinco de Mayo AKA “Cinco de Drinko” & The history of the Margarita

You either love them or you hate them. There really is no in between when it comes to whether you enjoy this type of drink or not. I have not always loved margaritas. In fact, until about 2 years ago, I would avoid them like the plague! I do not know why I did not like them for so many years, but I have a strong inkling that it had something to do with crappy margarita mix somewhere along the way!

There is no arguing that the best and most important part to any margarita is the tequila! If you make it a rule to always choose a clear tequila, instead of those cheap golden colored ones, you will probably survive a night of drinking margaritas. But I can’t promise anything. ;)

The history of Cinco de Mayo or May 5th dates back to 1862 and the Battle of Puebla. It is not a obligatory federal holiday in the United States or in Mexico, but that sure doesn’t mean we don’t celebrate with Mexican food and of course, margaritas! The Mexicans beat the French in an unlikely victory on May 5, 1862, which led to a celebration! And so now we have come to know it as, nothing else much really, EXCEPT for a drinking holiday. That seems to be a common trend amongst us Americans. Any excuse to drink right? I am not a huge fan of drinking, in fact, I would recommend you stay away from alcohol if you have the tendency is be an annoying or mean drunk. (Probably 1/2 the people I know…sorry, love you guys!) No one wants to deal with you if that is the case. AND never, never, ever, ever think it is okay to drink and drive. Because it’s not & you’ll get caught & it will cost you a lot of $ and you’ll feel like an ass when its all said & done.

Will Ali Fedotowsky be the next ‘Bachelorette’?

I think she is adorable & she should do the show. :)

I didn’t think it would be right if I didn’t have at least one blog post regarding the possibility Ali Fedotowsky being the next ‘Bachelorette’ on ABC’s hit show, “The Bachelorette, which mimics “The Bachelor”, just opposite sexes. It seems to be tradition for ABC to pick a young lady or man from a previous season of the show(s) that got rejected & sent home, but was always a favorite of viewers. Right? Sometimes they find true love, but most of the time they do not. I think that Ali would be a perfect candidate to do the show, but will she leave her job at Facebook to go & tape the show? (I think they have to have at least 6 weeks off to film, but I am not 100% positive about that).  I think that she sort of regrets leaving the show & Jake to go back to her job. I think that if she is given the opportunity to sign on with ABC and be the next most famous Bachelorette in the country, she will. Who the heck wouldn’t? I mean think about it, you’re single (duh!), you’re YOUNG & other then your job, what the heck do you have to lose? Nothing. You will travel, travel, travel & have amazing experiences that you will never ever forget. So go for it. You only live once & I think you should really try & remember. No regrets, just lessons learned. :)

The Bachelor! Rozlyn, Vienna & Ali…My thoughts & opinions :)

This is probably one of the most popular television shows amongst my girlfriends & I at the moment ;) I haven’t always watched every season, & I would not consider myself obsessed with the show (well maybe just a little), but it does give me a reason to look forward to the most dreaded day of the week, Monday. A couple of weeks ago, I wrote another blog post regarding Ali Fedotowsky & her decision to leave ‘The Bachelor’ for her job at Facebook. I predicted that Ali would be back. She was, sort of…via telephone, but not in the way that I know many of us viewers were hoping. She blew her chance when she chose her job over the “what could have been…” experience on ‘The Bachelor.”

NO PHONE ZONE – “Honk if you love Jesus, Text if you want to see him.”

Oprah Winfrey (yes, of course, OPRAH, who else?), recently started a “No Phone Zone” campaign to get Americans to make a pledge to themselves to NOT talk on the phone or text while they are driving. Distracted driving is an “epidemic that is sweeping through our country, claiming lives & destroying families.”That made me think long & hard about how serious this has become…please take it as serious as I am.

I am totally guilty of talking on the phone, texting, BBMing, checking Facebook statuses religiously & checking Twitter to stay updated with random, useless information, all WHILE driving. I know that it is a horrible habit & that it needs to stop. I want to try and get as many people as I can to sign this pledge & FOLLOW through and be conscious of not being on your phone when you are driving Put your iPhone & Blackberry in your purse & out of reach, so that you are not tempted to grab it. I know that having a cellphone is also a safety measure, but let’s make sure you stay alive, so you can use it if there really is an emergency, not just to check new updates during rush hour traffic.

No one needs to die because you have to check your phone!
