Well…I went back and forth deciding whether or not I wanted to dedicate a blog post to MTV’s trashy reality show, ‘The Hills’. I decided that I did because I think that this show is going to have such a negative impact on our youth. Not that our children and teens are not already corrupted at a young age due to the poisonous media that, I think, is and has ruined our country. Growing up, I was instilled with MORALS. I have a hard time believing that the youth of America has ANY values or morals anymore. Does anyone VALUE marriage BEFORE having children anymore? NOPE. It certainly doesn’t seem to be that way and it will only hurt those children in the future. I guess the point I am trying to get across is how toxic MTV really is to teen’s lives. I wasn’t allowed to watch the network when I was younger and boy, oh boy, I bet my parent’s didn’t think MTV could get any worse then how it was in the late 80′s and 90′s. They were wrong. Now the network is the host to what I think are the trashiest reality shows that exist.
I have been a fan of ‘The Hills’ since it began. Yes, I can admit that. It was Lauren Conrad that I was interested in watching because she seemed like the only girl left in California that had any sense of morals and respect for herself. Well, since LC decided to leave the show last season, the ratings, as well as the integrity of the show have gone right down the tubes. The show was nothing more than a silly reality show that I enjoyed watching just for entertainment. I also can admit that I enjoyed watching girls around my age live in a world that seems tobe so unrealistic to the rest of us. After watching last night’s premiere of the final season, I was absolutely disgusted. MTV, can I ask your producers a question?! Did you guys become crackheads with Kristin Cavallari and completely lose sight of what is quality television and what is just completely inappropriate? It seems to be that is exactly what happened! I do know that it is only about MONEY and RATINGS, but it seems so wrong that these television networks are filming anything and everything that will make them more money. I have recently been paying attention to the programming on MTV and thinking about how negatively it is impacting the youth of America. I do not think shows that encourage being pregnant at 16 (Of course girls that are 16 now think it’s cool to get knocked up…they have the possibility of being on a reality show!) are worthy of having a television show. Yes, I know that isn’t the case for every teen girl that watches “16 & Pregnant”, but “Hey MTV! You know you have an influence over teens, why not make it a positive influence?” Airing reality shows that portray our youth binge drinking, partying and doing drugs all hours of the night may be the real reality of our world, but is it really helping these teens to grow up and become GOOD citizens? Not likely. I wish these networks were held more accountable for the trashy material that they throw out into the world. Thinking about this just makes me so mad & upset. I guess the question I want to leave all of you with is…”If you do not already have children, Do you REALLY want to bring an innocent human being into this evil world of chaos? I know I am definitely re-considering my thoughts of having children someday. And if or when I do have children, they will not be watching MTV…ever…in my house.
P.S.- I couldn’t even begin to comment on drag Queen Heidi Montag in this post. I will save that rant for another time.
